EZRA GUTSCHOW, PE
SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

EZRA GUTSCHOW, PE is a senior mechanical engineer with RBA Engineers, Inc. He joined the company in 2004, after working for four years in Colorado and obtaining his master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

The areas of specialization for Ezra Gutschow include heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and plumbing design. He is well-versed in load calculations and energy analyses, thru ASHRAE Seminars. By working with housing units, in the Ted Stevens Anchorage Int’l Airport Residential Sound Insulation Program, he has gained working knowledge of construction trade inter-relationships. By working on electrical projects, he has further expanded his knowledge in another area.

Recent assignments at RBA for Ezra Gutschow include a water pressure boosting system for the Anchorage Boney Courthouse Building. He was assigned to work on several clinics on behalf of Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, Anchorage. The rural clinics are located in Chignik Lake, Kohkanok, Kaliganek, Manokotak, Port Lions, Old Harbor and Craig. A new assignment for Ezra is designing two condominiums in Anchorage, along with kitchen designs for restaurants such as Simon & Seafort’s, Zano’s Pizza, Peppercini’s Deli and Soprano’s Pizza.

The major assignment for Mr. Gutschow has been improvements for Midway Island infrastructure. Between 2004 and 2007, he has engineered the water treatment plant and distribution, the dual 500 kVA power plant generators, underground electrical 2.4 kV distribution, 5 miles of fiber optic backbone, a 400,000 gallon fuel tank farm, wastewater system for (15) buildings, airport operations facility and the runway electrical upgrade.

MIDWAY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS, 2004-2008
Midway Atoll, Pacific Ocean

Over a period of four years, Ezra Gutschow has been instrumental in engineering improvements to the Midway Island Infrastructure for US Fish & Wildlife Service. The water treatment plant, water distribution piping, two 500 kVA generators, the 2.4 kV underground power distribution, 5 miles of fiber optic cable, wastewater treatment for (15) buildings, the airport operations facility and Runway 6/24 high intensity lighting and navigation aids have been included in the scope assigned to Ezra Gutschow. This work was built using a design-build approach and the rapid delivery of accurate drawings, based on week-long field visits has proven very successful.

5TH & M STREET CONDOMINIUMS, 2005-06
Anchorage, AK

RBA teamed up with Klebs Mechanical as a design-build partner for this new 9-unit condominium project. The high-tech design required careful integration of modern plumbing fixtures and air-conditioning units. The latter used remote condensing units on the roof and the former was installed using PEX tubing to reduce costs and speed-up installation. Each unit has full set of valving to allow repairs and shut-off in case of emergencies. The sales price of each condominium ranges from $500K to $1 million. A similarly situated project, Shoreline Condominiums with (14)-units, is on the shelf, waiting for financing.

MCKINLEY ANNEX & ADDITION, 2006-07
Anchorage, AK

Ezra Gutschow has been working on the 50,000 SF office building for Marc Marlow et al. A portion was existing with roughed-in mechanical and electrical; 1/3rd of the project is a new steel structure. Using roof-top air handling equipment, medium velocity ducts distribute air to VAV boxes with reheat coils. The zoning was picked to match the tenant improvements for Office of Children’s Services, State of Alaska. The project is fast-tracked and completion is anticipated in a 9-month cycle.
