PROJECTS: OTHER UTILITIES

For a multitude of civil works, RBA Engineers has become adept at providing mechanical and electrical discipline support. Sample projects include:
  1. Alaska Railroad Corporation Line Changes
This $40 million development is finally constructed. Phase I primarily completed the track realignment on Elemendorf ABF and RBA engineered 35kV and 15kV power line relocations. Phase II covered sections on Fort Richardson. Nearly 10 miles of fiber optic cable in a duct bank as installed.

Starting in 2007, RBA will be working on the mechanical and electrical support for the $300 million Port MacKenzie Spur Line.
  2. Asplund Headworks
RBA is providing the mechanical design for the upgrade of the HVAC and ventilation systems as a follow-up to the 1999-2001 work in Anchorage's Wastewater Treatment Facility.
  3. Asplund Water Treatment Plant
The mechanical and electrical upgrades at Pt. Woronzof included a boiler replacement, lab air conditioning modifications and improvement of controls. RBA was a sub-consultant on the Asplund Facilities Plan, 1999 and the subsequent Solids Improvements design, 2001.
  4. 35kV Power Distribution City of Unalaska
For two roadways, Ballyhoo and East Point, RBA is providing 35kV power distribution upgrades. The cost estimate totals $2 million and encompasses sectionalizers, transformers, underground conduit and some 480V distribution.
  5. South Channel Bridge
This bridge crossing over Captain's Bay is 700 feet long. RBA's scope of work spans roadway lighting, 35KV power crossing, telephone and cable distribution conduits across the waterway. The piers and bridgework will have US Coast Guard dictated navigational lights
  6. Fort Richardson Water Treatment Plant
RBA supervised the field construction of this plant. The firm oversaw work of subcontractors, maintained submittal logs, conducted inspections, prepared as-builts, and completed the final project close-out.
  7. AWWU PS#31 Generator
Ed Bass, PE was responsible for designing the standby generator at Pump Station #31. He completed this project for AWWU in 1998; construction cost estimate was $175,000 for a 200kW oil-fired generator. The actual work replaced an underground tank with an above-ground, double-wall tank on the site and also at six other locations.
  8. USAF Long Range Radar Stations,
RBA designed the lagoon pump stations for the remote facilities in Indian Mountain, Spaarvohn and Fort Yukon
  9. South Anchorage Middle School
A 16" diameter pipeline, with two pump stations, SCADA controls and storage tank of 500,000 gallons, was designed for the Anchorage School District under AWWU guidelines.
  10. King Salmon Sewer, Phases I, IIA, IIb, IIC
RBA designed the seven lift stations, load centers and controls for this rural wastewater system. For the above-ground sections, heat tape freeze-protection was designed. The entire project was built in several phases based on funding.
